Suddenly Eye See

On Tuesday afternoon, James accompanied me to my Lasik consultation. After three hours of eye exams, the doctor told me that I am officially a candidate! My surgery is scheduled for Thursday, December 9!

Marine Ball 2010

This weekend was exactly what I needed! James and I left Martin on Thursday around 5:00pm, and we drove to Smyrna. We stayed in a hotel room with Jake O'Brien, one of James' groomsmen and best friends. They served in Iraq together. On Friday morning, James and Jake left around 6:45am to go to drill, and I started my day around that time too since my body is used to waking up that early anyway. I watched a bit of tv, ate breakfast (a bran muffin and strawberry yogurt), and then got ready for my 3 mile run. Though the fitness room was small, it was perfect for what I needed to accomplish.

After running, I stretched, showered and got ready for a day of shopping. First item on the agenda was lunch at Quizno's. I ate a veggie flatbread sammie with a small cup of chili. I then spent about 6 hours shopping at Kohl's, Maurice's, Target, Hibbett Sports, Payless, and other places located across from the hotel in Smyrna. I ended up spending way more than I intended, but thankfully James didn't mind one bit. I bought some much needed items for running and for work. I even bought a cute little date outfit which I wore Friday night when James, Jake and I ate dinner at Raz'z where I ate a New Orleans style pasta dish.

On Saturday, I woke around 6:30am when James and Jake left for drill, and I pretty much followed a similar schedule from the day before. This time I ran 8 miles, my first long run on my 10 week half marathon training schedule. Week 4 is now complete! I ran on the treadmill again. If I had gone outside, the run would have probably been a lot harder on me, but I handled it well on the treadmill. It felt so good to reach a new record!

Instead of shopping on Saturday, I checked out of the hotel in Smyrna and drove to the Renaissance Hotel in Nashville (location of the Marine Ball). After checking in, I walked to Panera Bread and ate a veggie panini and a cup of tortilla soup. (I really enjoyed all my meals over the weekend if you haven't noticed!) I then went to Trim Classic Barber to get my hair styled for the Ball. I absolutely loved Giovanni, the artsy guy who first massaged my scalp and then performed wonders on my hair. You have got to visit this place if you're ever in Nashville. It was a little pricey but the atmosphere and the personalities are one of a kind!

We had a lovely time at the Ball. We did not dance much to James' delight. We ate salmon, mashed potatoes, veggies and the Marine Corps birthday cake for dessert. This year's Ball marked our third year in attendance and the three year anniversary of our engagement. Where does the time go?!

Today we slept in, at breakfast at Panera (egg souffles, pastries and hot tea!), packed our bags and drove home. I slept most of the way, and James is napping on the couch now. I am thankful for such a fulfilling and safe weekend!
