Caden's 4th Birthday
We attempted to get a picture of all the kids. Easier said than done!
When I asked him what he was going to wish for, he said, "My daddy". His daddy is in Afghanistan right now. We all nearly cried.
To almost every present he opened, he said, "I love it! It's so cute!" Haha.
Can you guess the birthday theme?
Spiderman and me
Later in the evening, Caden's balloons were accidentally let go outside. As they were floating higher into the sky, Ava said, "They're going up to Heaven so Jesus will know it's Caden's birthday!"

Summer Food Firsts
A few weeks ago, a friend of ours gave us a big bag of fresh pecans, and ever since then I had been thinking about making a pecan pie. I have never made one before, but I had seen my mom make them for Thanksgiving and Christmas enough times that I figured it wouldn't be too hard. James prefers pie over cake, and his birthday was Sunday, July 31. It was the perfect time to try my hand at it. I searched for different recipes online, and I finally decided to go with this one. The website's layout, pictures, and instructions were ideal for someone like me who had never made a pecan pie.
James loved it! We shared it at work the next day, and everyone else loved it too. I did cheat a little by buying a pre-made pie crust, but I didn't want to bite off more than I could chew (pardon the pun). Next time I may be braver and try to make my own pie crust.
I'd like to backtrack a little and share what James and I made for an Independence day dinner. Deviled eggs! Again, I had never made these before. Although we didn't write down the recipe, my mom graciously told us how to make them. James helped with this little endeavor, and they turned out great!

Dresser Transformation
We bought this dresser for a great deal and then had it repainted. I've been meaning to post before and after pictures since June.

Before (James didn't really like the white, and there were also some major nicks in the paint.)
We were going out on a limb choosing the color, but we think it turned out quite lovely.
What do you think?
